He Wanted Her to Know!
“Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth because they don’t want their illusions to be destroyed”
- Friedrich Nietzsche
James wanted Lia to know that he was watching. That he was waiting for the right moment so that he could pitch his game. He was already in familiar territory but had not realized how much things had changed. He strutted as his feet covered the pavement that he was used to walking, confident that he would not trip and fall. Smirking, as he passed by monuments that reminded him of recognizable memories of a life he once lived, one where he made all the calls.
He wanted that life again. He envied the souls that were living it.
It made him uncomfortable. Watching portraits of her beauty that should have been his, being cared for by another. Whose hands were gentle and safe enough to bring life and bloom back to a garden he once killed.
It was a sight to see what he had become. His intentional disregard for boundaries, held him in a live capsule, exposed and unshielded to the world. He was a fool who did not know he was a fool. Because what he thought had made him smart for such a long time, was also what blinded his eyes from seeing the unmistakable danger right in his face.
He was poised, unperturbed in his eagerness to put out a fire that he had not lit, that he failed to see that he was on fire himself.
Lia continued on her way. Her hands being held tight by Lucas who had stolen her heart not so long ago. She remained unbothered, knowing that she would never return to that place and I did not blame her. How could she? She survived within an inch of her life. Lucas knew about her past; she was honest from the very beginning. And, in his heart, he already had decided that the search for his queen ended the day that he had met Lia. It was no small thing. Although she showed signs of insecurity, Lucas reminded Lia daily that he was sure, and nothing could change his mind from her.
She lived in his consistency and kindness refusing to let anything come between them. But she knew James would not stop. He was that type, that if he could, would destroy a soul if it meant that no one else could have it.
While on her walk to the store, Lia felt as though someone was watching her. She was not one to be suspicious, but considering what happened earlier that week, she decided to listen to her intuition. She walked cautiously, inspecting her surroundings. She moved to an open area in the street to ease the tension that she was feeling.
She decided for a moment to glance behind her to be sure, and that was when she saw him, James, looking at her from behind a tree.
Lucas, concerned for Lia’s safety, came up with a plan that if she felt that she was ever in danger, to press the call button that he had given her in the form of a bracelet, which would send him an SOS directly. Before Lia could press the button, Lucas felt it at the bottom of his stomach that something terrible may have happened to Lia. And to his surprise, the reality of what he felt was confirmed when her SOS came up on his screen.
He targeted her location right away and headed in that direction, seeing that she was not too far from their home. HE RAN WITH FURY IN HIS FEET! As he drew near to where she was, He kept thinking in his heart, “Lia, I am almost there. Please be ok.”
But nothing could quench the somberness of what he was feeling.
James, who knew how terrified she was, stood there laughing. He had a darkness about him that could overcast a sky.
To be continued!
